On Saturday, we went to the Incredible Edible Park with the YMCA Dreamcatcher group to for the poor. Along the way, we got lost trying to find the park. When we finally reached the park, we found out that the park was covered with rows of lettuce, strawberry plants and more rows of dirt. First, I started pulling bunches of lettuce out of the ground and stacking them in large green crates. It was a good thing we brought plastic gloves! Surprisingly, after a while most of the people's hands were covered with blisters. Ours weren't! My friend and I filled lots of crates with fresh lettuce. Some of the lettuce were twisty and they were really tall while others were small and plump. Soon after the crates were loaded onto a truck, we went to plant bean seeds. A few boys were there digging holes in the ground with very fat, wood poles. We dropped a pink bean into each hole and covered them with dirt. It was fun dropping the seeds into the tiny holes. It was sort of like the game Clothespins in a Bottle. After a few rows were layered with holes and beans, I ran back to the fields just in time to pick fresh strawberries. I quickly plucked the ruby red strawberries off the plants and dropped them into a fresh, new, plastic glove. The farmer said we could keep the strawberries. I was so happy and the strawberries were scrumptious! As the people left one by one, I handed them a warm, homemade, chocolate chip cookies. Some people had seconds! One of those people were me! I had a really fun time at the Gleaning Harvest. I was proud of myself helping the poor.
The End
